On Friday, July 13th, the USPTO opened its first satellite Patent Office in Detroit, Michigan. With the opening of this office, the USPTO hopes to speed up the overall patent process and will also create about 120 jobs in the first year alone. In addition to Detroit, regional offices will be opened in or around Dallas, Texas, Denver, Colorado, and Silicon Valley, California. The USPTO is still in the process of finding specific locations for the additional satellite offices which is a direct result of the establishment of the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act of 2011 (AIA). The Act requires the USPTO to establish satellite locations to modernize the U.S. patent system by September 2014.
Congratulations to the USPTO on this achievement!
